Zenergy created the first worldwide application to discourage drunk-driving, entitled “Don’t Drink and Drive!”
We read the statistics, we asked around us, we looked through the bars and restaurants and raised some conclusions: yes, many drivers are drinking “a glass” and then driving… and when this happens, those guilty, “feel OK” and “anyway, the distance to the destination is short” or “there is no police”, not to mention the “gum that freshens the breath”, or other remedies such as coffee beans or parsley leaves …
We tried to further dig on this and realized something pretty simple: when you drink you are not conscientious of how it affects you: you think you’re allright, even the temptation to press the acceleration is greater because of the “euphoria” sensation, and the dangers appear as non-existent.
Based on these findings we simulated the effects that different quantities of alcohol consumption, have on the human body, in order to make people aware, while sober, of the risks of driving under the influence.
The Application’s Description:
The game consists of five levels, represented by the blood alcohol content (0‰, 0,3‰, 0,5‰, 0,8‰ and 1,1‰). The car responds to driver’s actions according to BAC (blood alcohol concentration) and to the effects that this has upon the human body (delayed reactions, blurred vision, balance disorders, etc).
At the beginning of each level of the application are described the alcohol percentage and the effects that it produces while driving. Depending on the accident that occurs (hitting a pedestrian, another car, some side post or buildings), a corresponding image is shown, accompanied by the figures related to drunk driving fatalities, provided by the Romanian Police.
Therefore, the application’s purpose is to warn the drivers about the risks they expose themselves when driving under the influence.
Why iPhone?
Due to its technical characteristics – accelerometer and gyroscope – the iPhone is the best device that suits our simulation. We didn’t found the official figures on the number of iPhone users in Romania, but we know that its sales can not cope with the demand… On the other hand, the mobile revolution is the most important wave that has affected the computational world, the PC being replaced by smartphones and tablets. It is expected that by 2013, ten years after the launch of smartphones, to exist a billion of such devices in the world – about the same number of the existing PCs today, thirty years after its launch.
Get involved!
In order to spread the message to a wider audience, we created a video that can be seen on the facebook page dedicated to the campaign – http://www.facebook.com/Do.not.Drink.and.Drive?v=app_6009294086 -, where those who enter can share their views and comments on drinking and driving, and get involved in this campaign by spreading the message personally.
This is the story of the application “Don’t drink and drive!” that anyone can download it free from the Apple App Store.
Warning! This application does not aim to be a cool game!
We mention this because we received some feedback from iPhone gaming enthusiasts with an average age of 14 ☺ who told us it’s not cool!, that the circuit is too simple, the effects are not as good and that they can not finish the last levels!
Thanks in advance everyone who will be involved and will support this campaign to prevent drunk-driving ( App store and facebook page “Don’t drink and drive!”).
Thank you Alexandrion Grup Romania and the Romanian Traffic Police for supporting this less conventional project- the first, worldwide, of its kind!
